Inspector Drake and the Black Widow

Inspector Drake and his sidekick Sergeant Plod return in their most perplexing case yet. A maid discovers the corpse of wealthy oil tycoon John Johnson with a sword sticking out of his back. An ordinary case of murder? If so, then why is Johnson dressed as a woman, appearing to have swallowed a tortoise? Inspector Drake attempts to solve the murder whilst also avoiding his own, as Plod has had a premonition that Drake has only a matter of hours to live!

The committee of an amateur drama group is meeting to discuss a new play. We notice that, strangely, the presentation of the meeting to us is reflecting the ideas put forward by the committee, making the play a demonstration as well as a discussion of those ideas.
